Our Open Day will be over when you read this and if you visited us, you will know more about it than me at time of writing.   I can, however, tell you the Volunteers received a warm welcome from the good people of Tiptree when they held a £1 Sale in St.Luke’s Hall on 2nd July.   They were also delighted with the £537 raised on the day and look forward to holding another fundraising event there in the future.   This was on top of £100 kindly donated by the St. Lukes Ladies Group a few weeks earlier.   We thank all of you for your wonderful support, and to lovely Lorraine, our local volunteer who made all this happen.
A week later on 9th July, our volunteers enjoyed meeting some of you at the Shelley Fun Dog Show.   The RDA kindly invited us to have a stand promoting SESAW which proved very popular.   Then next day we had two stalls at the Long Melford Street Fair.   I’ve heard lots of people say it was a great day and nearly £600 was raised on the SESAW tables which is absolutely terrific!
During the busy weeks prior to our Open Day on 31st July we were grateful for the help offered by the willing girls and boys from Purina.   Many hands made light work of erecting marquees and sprucing up the kennels ready for our happiest day of the year.
As if July was not already busy enough, Storm, the sheep lived up to his name when his brothers were being sheared.   As his turn came, our woolly wriggler smashed out of the pen and stormed off in disgust.   Despite his superior air when they came in that night, his triumph was short lived and he is now devoid of his thick coat, just like his siblings.
The story continues as we plan to follow one of the fleeces on it’s journey from field to finish.   My friend, Betty put us in touch with the Suffolk Stitchers and Knitters organization and work has already started so watch this space!   They are keen to recruit like-minded people to help make things for charity.   If you enjoy crochet, knitting or sewing, or would like to help in other ways, call in for a chat and a cuppa at the Wool Loft, The Old Courthouse, Civic Drive, Ipswich, IP1 2DX, on the 4th Tuesday each month.
Before I close, I must thank all the generous people who leave food at various locations in Ipswich, Hadleigh and Sudbury.   Mum was very glad to see lots of kitten food and cat litter coming in when it was most needed.   Your kind donations should keep us going through August which is usually quiet.   If you are planning to visit us during the holiday period, it’s best to check in case we are closed.   What with all the Open Day enquiries to follow up and people going away, the only one available to see you might be me, Kenny (the Boss) Chihuahua!
