“Good company, good music and exceedingly good cakes’ summed up a local fundraising tea party held in July.

Teresa and Stephen Norris invited friends, families and neighbours to their garden to celebrate the birthday of Eeyore, their 25 year old donkey who needed cheering up after losing his soulmate, Thistle, last year.

The guests relaxed in delightful surroundings and toes tapped to an entertaining medley played by the Boxted Buskers, all talented members of the larger Boxted Methodist Silver Band.

Local Artist, Maisy, painted a charming picture of Eeyore which took pride of place as 1st prize in the raffle.

Despite threatening weather, gazebos stayed fast whilst a delicious afternoon tea was served by an army of local volunteers.

Delectable cakes and sandwiches, produced by Dee’s Dairy Free Cream Teas, all made possible by generous sponsor Hawksmoor Construction Services Ltd.

The happy revellers rounded off the event with a chorus of Happy Birthday sung to the star of the show, Eeyore the donkey, before dispersing ahead of high winds and heavy showers.

A total of £700 was raised in aid of Suffolk and Essex Small Animal Welfare based in nearby Leavenheath. Most of the assembled company was already well aware of the charity’s activities. Indeed, several had obtained their pets from SESAW and photographer Rebecca completed her work experience at the Centre some years ago.
